WHO Director-General updates Member States on progress towards tackling sexual misconduct at quarterly briefing

During the 7 July 2023 meeting, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus highlighted the Organization’s advancement [https://www.who.int/director-general/speeches/detail/who-director-general-s-opening-remarks-at-the-quarterly-briefing-for-member-states-on-prevention-of-and-response-to-sexual-misconduct-7-july-2023] towards its Three-year Strategy [https://www.who.int/publications/i/item/9789240069039] objectives, focusing specifically on its implementation of a victim- and survivor-centred approach, strengthening policies and procedures, safeguarding WHO’s operations, and changing its culture.

After 30 years of experience in preventing and responding to sexual exploitation and abuse, Victoria joined WHO on 1 May 2023 with the conviction that the Organization has the “commitment, resources and agency to move forward on this issue and make a big difference.”

In July 2023, WHO launched its first-ever WHO Accountability Framework for the prevention of and response to sexual misconduct, which identifies and clarifies the primary accountabilities for different categories of WHO personnel, implementing partners, and others who collaborate with WHO.
